Dangerous Employee Conduct and Unauthorized Medical Advice Beware of shopping here if you have specific medical conditions or boundaries. I went in to find a specific herbal drops for gut health. A female employee directed me to the supplement aisle and began pushing digestive enzymes, claiming that because I don't have a gallbladder, I'm not digesting fats and proteins properly. When I politely told her I could not take those ingredients due to a medical condition of stomach acid overproduction, she refused to respect my boundaries. Instead, she aggressively pushed the products, told me my licensed doctors were "wrong," and claimed "there is no such thing as the overproduction of stomach acid." She defensively claimed she's "been doing this for years" and accused my doctors of tricking me. To make matters worse, she began talking incredibly loudly and became highly animated, causing a scene that made other shoppers stare. When I repeated that I couldn't take them and walked away to remove myself from the situation, she openly chuckled at my assumed ignorance. The bakery smelled amazing the moment I walked in. Picked up fresh rolls along with my groceries, and everything tasted great later that evening. Checkout took only a couple of minutes, which was a pleasant surprise during dinner time.

Before me and my boyfriend walked into the store an older black woman stared at us with no hello and seemed shocked that we walked in. We should have left then but as a paying customer I feel like it’s unacceptable to be forced out of spaces because of stares. While looking at down the aisles, employees stared, moved to the same aisles not even trying to act busy or be discreet. Twice we were asked the same can we help you as if we couldn’t possibly be here to buy organic overpriced foods. At the check out a white woman went all the way around us and tried to cut in line as if we hadn’t been there a minute before her. Another cashier opened his lane and then she tired to go back and cut us off again but the first cashier was then ready for the next person. That behavior is acceptable to them and the cashier made a weird comment about not making assumptions because I got the free coffee samples to make sure to not charge me I guess. Overall a horrible experience by the stereotyping and racism from the entire store. I guess we have to go to Houston for healthy food or ig the expectation is to go to Walmart.

I was very impressed and excited as soon as I walked into the store. I was a kid in a candy store. I’m from Boulder, CO and it’s hard to find authentic organic grocery stores unless you’re in Austin. I am a new frequent customer! You must go check it out, they have such a variety of large fresh vegetables and farm to market meat.

I visited the store today intending to take my time, browse, and enjoy a quiet Sunday. I am very health conscious, and because of that I read every single ingredient label before purchasing anything. I avoid added sugar and certain ingredients, so it naturally takes me longer to shop in any grocery store. This is simply how I make informed choices about what I put into my body. What I did not expect was to be followed and stared at repeatedly by staff. Not once or twice, but on several occasions two women and a gentleman positioned themselves near me, watching every aisle I entered. At one point I turned around to find an older woman with gray hair standing directly behind me. When I asked if she needed something, she responded in a rude tone and asked if she could help me instead. The entire interaction felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. This was easily one of the strangest shopping experiences I have had. I make an effort to support small, locally owned businesses, and Basic Foods has been one of the few places in Beaumont that offers healthier and organic options. Because of that, I genuinely want to shop here. However, the way I was treated today made the visit unpleasant a
